Putting the blame where it belongs

Mike Thomas over at the Orlando Sentinel has published a very good article on the status of the Magic games on television.

Opening night

What bonehead makes a decision just before the start of the season to turnover broadcast rights to a cable TV station that has less than 25% market penetration in your core area?

Catching up with the players

Good Q&A with the players regarding the summer and upcoming training camp.http://www.nba.com/magic/news/Catching_Up_With_the_Players-237351-800.html...

One more funny thing

I was reading a forum post that I've been following most of the day in order to gauge how other Magic fans feel. One thing that popped up a few minutes ago was what will we do about losing all the Serbian fans if Darko leaves the Magic.

Thoughts on Sign and Trade

If the Magic agree to a sign and trade with Seattle, we would obviously have to send a player or two that are somewhat fan favorites. From the couple emails I've received and then a few postings on forums across the net, don't believe what you hear about having to give up JJ or anyone else the Magic want to keep.

Worst possible case

I'll bring donuts every Friday.

Top 10 reasons...

My personal favorite, "Learned the loud explosions outside the Amway Arena weren’t fireworks."

This is the Magic I know

According to various reports around the web today, the Orlando Magic are forcing Billy Donovan to break his contract. Not only are the Magic holding Donovan to his contract, but they reportedly would welcome him back if he made that decision.

Bad luck or bad management?

Good business skills make good business.

Season tickets?

Now, I've said publicly that I will not renewing or purchasing any season tickets until the ownership of this team changes. The ownership of the Magic team has consistenly put weak management in place that has practically ruined every year since, ahem, you know who.

Billy Donovan to sign with the Magic

Well, according to just about every major news source in America, Billy Donovan will be announced as the Magic's next head coach. I'm interested to hear what all the other Magic fans think about this. Personally, I'm a bit numb on the whole idea.

It's official!

Brian Hill has been officially relieved of his duties as head coach of the Orlando Magic. There are conflicting reports as to whether he was fired, resigned or if the team is negotiating another role for him within the organization.

How the Magic can win

Aside from the obvious reducing turnovers and improving on the free throw line, the Magic need to make a few minor tweaks in order to beat the Detroit Pistons. Here are a couple things that I think the Magic could adjust to help their chances of beating the Pistons.

It's Playoff Time!

Finally, everyone is back to 0-0. This is the postseason and the Magic are in it for the first time since a guy named McGrady was on our team.

Magic win, clinch playoff spot

The Magic blew a 20 point lead late in the fourth, but managed to hang on to beat the Boston Celtics. With the Indiana loss and a Magic win, the Magic are now guaranteed a playoff spot. Hopefully, the team will get their act together and make something of it.

On last night's loss to the Pistons

How the hell can you not see 6'11", 270 pounds of funky stuff?

Magic find another way to lose

Magic lose to the Toronto Raptors tonight. That's three games in the last week the Magic have blown. And that's enough for me. I'm done. Until management does something to improve this team, I'm done. No more season tickets. No more merchandise. No more games on TV. I would rather sit through reruns of American Idol, Season Two than watch another pathetic effort on the part of the Magic.

Playoff update

For the Magic, an off night seems to be their best chance of getting into the playoffs. Indiana, New Jersey and New York all lost last night. The Magic moved in the 8th spot and the same record as New Jersey in the 7th spot. Now, all the Magic have to do tonight is win in Toronto. Shouldn't be too much pressure on them for this game, only the 4 or 5 Magic fans left are watching.

Brian Hill comments

When asked about the short rotation, Brian Hill responded that he "played the guys he thought would win the game." Follow-up question was if this was a one-time deal, coach Hill responded no.

Magic back in playoff race

With a victory tonight, the Magic squeak back into the 8th spot and are only a half game out of 7th. These kind of things happen on the right coast.

Bianchi wakes up

Mike Bianchi over at the Orlando Sentinel finally woke up today and posted a good piece on the state of the Magic. He basically states the obvious for most of us Magic fans and includes some info on yesterdays "clear the air" meetings the Magic organization had.

Magic face Utah tonight

So, the Magic play the Utah Jazz tonight in Orlando. Remember, the Jazz were riding a hot streak when Orlando went into Utah and beat them on their home court.

Follow-up on Magic talk

John Denton over at FloridaToday.com has posted a preview to an article for tomorrow about Magic GM Otis Smith speaking with his team before practice. Short of the story is that Smith is not very happy with the attitude, leadership and lack of focus.

Magic discuss problems

The Magic held a team meeting earlier today. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Tony Battie was quote as saying "Guys were really upset. Not only that, Coach had the film to back up everything he said in the meeting."

Magic fans fading

The current state of the Magic is no doubt discouraging. About the only thing going for the Magic is the involvement of the team in the community. How do the fans feel?

Offseason topics

The Magic have some very serious decisions to make this off season. As I see it right now, the top three priorities will be how much the Magic are willing to offer Darko Milicic, signing a scorer and what to do about the coaching staff.

Magic on TNT HD

The Magic are playing on national TV tonight at 8pm. The game will be broadcast on TNT and TNT HD. Don't miss it!

Problems ahead?

We all know the Magic have been in a slump lately. The confusing part to me is how can the team get better unless there are changes.

Changes to the starting lineup

Everywhere you read about the Orlando Magic these days, or any team for that matter, someone will have an opinion about the Coach, GM, starting lineup, who the team should trade or trade for and which dancer is the hottest. But the talk of starting lineup changes are heating up for the Magic.

Notes on Tuesday practice

Team - Dwight Howard. Dwight Howard - Team. Now, let's see how many of you can get the little round bouncy thing to the big guy down in the post. Reference illustration provided below....

New arena deal

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the arena finally has a name. Amway and Magic owner Rich DeVos have a deal to pay $1.5 million over 4 years for naming rights to the arena. The arena will officially be called the Amway Arena, but we all still know it's unofficially the O-rena....

Training camp begins today

The Magic begin training camp today in Jacksonville. J.J. Redick will most likely be held from practice due to an injured left foot. Grant Hill is expected to practice with the team.

Update on Penny Hardaway

For those of you who have asked or are still wondering, there is only one way Penny Hardaway will ever wear an Orlando Magic jersey.

Franchise no more

Steve Francis is no longer the "Franchise" in Orlando. Francis was sent to the New York Knicks for the expiring contract of Penny Hardaway and forward Trevor Ariza.

Training camp

Training camp opens October 4th for the Orlando Magic. The Magic will be holding camp at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, FL. On October 8th, there will be an open practice session for the fans.

Updates on 2005-2006 roster

The Magic have not made any significant player moves this summer. The key acqusition was Keyon Dooling and the key release was Doug Christie. The NBA draft produced one runaway draft pick and the other, Travis Diener, will be competing for time at the point guard position against Jameer Nelson, Steve Francis and Dooling. DeShawn Stevenson can also fill time in the one or two position.

It's official - Co-GM's

Dave Twardzik and Otis Smith have been named as co-GM's for the Orlando Magic. Both have been in the Magic front office for the last three years and are former NBA players, with Smtih playing for the Magic in the franchise's early years.

Disappearing act - Weisbrod to step down.

What a way to wake up on a Monday morning. The rumor mill is running at full speed today.

McGrady Traded!

The Tracy McGrady for Steve Francis deal is finally done. We were also able to get rid of Juwan Howard's big contract, Tyron Lue and Reece Gaines. The Magic picked up Cuttino Mobley and Kevin Cato. I would expect both the be moved before the start of the season. So, as far as our roster currently stands: Grant Hill, Pat Garrity (who are both coming back from injuries, Steve Francis, Jameer Nelson, Dwight Howard, Keith Bogans. Everyone else is still up in the air if they will be back.  Players on the trading block or free agents include DeShawn Stevenson, Drew Gooden, Andrew DeClercq, Sean Rooks, Derrick Dial, Britton Johnsen. Second round draft pick Anderson Varejao is also up in the air....

Can Gabe save his job?

As the trade deadline approaches, rumors are beginning to fly. Every true Magic fan is sitting on the edge of their seat waiting to hear the news. The news that something has happened. Anything. If nothing happens before the trade deadline, you can expect to see Johnny Davis and John Gabriel in the unemployment line. You might see a team doctor or two as well. Pat Garrity in for another surgery? Ridiculous. So, what can save John Gabriel's job? In my mind, nothing. Even if he pulls off something spectacular - we need improvement in the front office. I would really like to see Pat Riley or Rudy T working for the Magic in some capacity (ideally, GM and Coach). There is a big enough rift between Magic...

Another ESPN article - Fire Gabriel

ESPN has another great article on why Gabriel should be out of a job. If you're holding hands in the trenches and a grenade gets thrown in there - you all go together. That grenade will not choose who gets to stay in this world and who does not. 1-2-3 Kaboom. Goodbye Gabriel....
