Magic win, Indiana loses

The Magic beat up on the Heat to do their part in reaching the 7th seed. However, the Indiana game went down to the final minute and the Wizards pulled out a late win. So, the Magic are stuck in 8th - forced to play the Pistons.

It's Showtime!

The Magic start the 2006-07 season tonight against the Chicago Bulls. Today is finally here; basketball is back. The Magic are back.

Reggie, Reggie!!!

The Indiana Pacers are a disgrace to professional sports. Last week, Stephen Jackson was involved in an incident at a strip club with two other members of the team. During the incident, Jackson ended up pulling a handgun out and firiing several shots.

Final game of the season

Tonight, the Magic play their final game of the seasona against the Indiana Pacers. The game is in Indiana and starts at 7pm. I don't know about the rest of you, but I want to see a big win to close out the season and make up for Monday night's loss to the Bulls

Where is the team going?

With the addition of Carlos Arroyo, rumors are swirling about Steve Francis.

Carnival of the NBA, #10

I'm pretty new to this whole carnival deal, but check it out. Basically, it's a digest-type post that links bloggers together on news around the NBA.

Will the real John Weisbrod please stand up

I have to say that I am all too familiar with the decision John Wesibrod had to make. Weisbrod did all this work, dirty work at that, to get the team turned around and headed into the right direction.

What is the problem?

While the Magic will finish the season where I realistically expected to them, I would have to say I am disappointed with the progress throughout the year.

For those of you that visit the site frequently, you may have the lack of updates or late updates from time to time. I was in the process of moving servers, changing software and updating the look and feel. Take a look around and let me know if you encounter any problems. Also, feel free to let us know if you like the new site or not.

Things I would like to see

While our team is getting better, we still have a few small problems that need to be worked out. These are the things I would like to see happen.

To Boo, or not to boo

Although I already posted my last McGrady note awhile back, I thought the boo vs. not to boo delimma should be addressed. Who cares? Really.

You have got to be kidding me...

Honestly, this is a joke.

Not expecting this...

While I was originally against the Magic's decision of bringing Johnny Davis on full-time, I do think he is a good coach.

What to look for

--------

Magic open practice

Magic hold open practice for a sneak peek on the upcoming season. --------

Training camp starts today!

So, let's get the year started off right. Francis at point or shooting guard? If shooting guard, does Jameer start? Does Howard starts at power forward? At small forward, is Hill back for good this time? What about Pat Garrity? I really miss holding my breath as he launches another three.

It worked!

Just kidding, but I will pretend that my little petition had something to do with John Gabriel's demotion. So, he is not entirely gone from the Magic - he will serve as a regional scout and advisor. John Weisbrod will take over as general manager. It was mentioned that he will be looking for an assistant general manager. I think this is a bad move. The Magic should be looking for a head coach that can serve as the GM as well, maybe a Pat Riley. Oh, and check the poll on Orlando Sentinel - over 49% at the time of this writing suggests the Magic need to make more moves....

We have to start somewhere

--------

26 games to go

26 games left until the end of the season. 15 of the games are at home. 5 of those home games are against West Coast teams. Also, we have a 4 game trip against West Coast teams and then we are done. So, 15 games are against East Coast teams. Seems the Magic have a favorable schedule - let's hope we pull out a few good wins and end the season on a high note....

Oh no, he didn't

Tracy McGrady did it again last night. McGrady threw the ball off the glass to himself for a crowd pleasing dunk. It was the second All-Star game in which McGrady provided such a highlight and third time in his career. The other time was against the Toronto Raptors last year. It never amazes me to see the defense turn to see where the pass is going, only to realize that it is coming back off the glass. It hardly seems as if McGrady is moving that quickly, but then he just explodes to the basket and it is too late for anyone to do anything. I really would like to see more of this during the regular season, not the off-the-glass dunks, but determined drives to the basket....

Sentinel says it all

“You're just the only one who admits it.” Referring to Rod Strickland and his admission that he screwed up. Well, maybe he did - and it is nice to see someone step up. However, there are a few others on the team that could step up as well. Why Johnny Davis played Gordan Giricek at the end of the game instead of Keith Bogans. Why Drew Gooden is not playing worth a crap this season? And, why doesn't Gooden stand up and greet the players during starting lineup introductions. Why do we keep getting excuses about Steven Hunter and Reece Gaines? Why isn't Big 'Z' playing more minutes? Why has Tracy McGrady been disappearing in the fourth quarter lately? Sure they couldn't get the ball to him at...

Quick thoughts

Is there anyone out there second guessing the Giricek/Gooden for Mike Miller? I am probably one of Mike Miller's biggest fans - and I was ok with the trade. But I look at things now and really wish we had Miller back. His numbers are down a bit from his years in Orlando, but his assists are up. We are missing a guy with Miller-like talents on this team. Anyhow - just wanted to put that out there to see what anyone else thought....

Funny article

Watch out

After only 8 days on the job, Isiah Thomas is making some major moves over in New York. They traded Clarence Weatherspoon (recently placed on injured list by Thomas) to the Rockets for Moochie Norris and John Amaechi. According to sources, Amaechi will be waived. For those unfamiliar - Amaechi was our starting/backup forward/center for a few years. Remember - he is the one that would bury his face into his hands or a towel during the National anthem. So, who wants to bet that Gabriel makes an attempt to sign Amaechi? Ugh - here we go again....

More information

For those who wonder if management is truly doing all they can to help our team, check out the salary information on HoopsHype.com and more salary information on InsideHoops.com. Though not completely accurate, both sources show a similar fact. The Magic have one of the lowest payrolls in the NBA. This, even after our beloved owner told management that money was no object this past summer and that the cap could be exceeded. It amazes me that we even hold .500 year after year. With one of the hardest players on the team raking in 366k and the worst pulling in 1.4m, it is a damn wonder we win any games. The Magic are a few $3-8 million dollar players away from contending. Guess we cannot blame everything on...

Blah, blah, Gabriel, blah, blah, blah

Magic Curse?

The Phoenix Suns fired head coach Frank Johnson today. I hope it wasn't because the Magic beat them.

A lesson to be learned

--------

Quick note

Rod Strickland is a professional basketball player. For him to come into Orlando and play as well as he did with no practice was beyond belief. We have guys running around on the court that cannot play basketball as good as this guy does. He can see the floor really well. I think Keith Bogans can learn a lot from Strickland. They are similar in size (eh, a couple inches) and build. For whatever reason, the team moved without the ball better (read: as opposed to not at all) when Strickland was running the show. There were plenty of easy baskets and dunks when our players moved without the ball. When Tyronn Lue runs the offense, there is more standing around and time running off the clock. I...

Observations

Starting FiveThe year is still young, but I am starting to see where our starting 5 is headed. Tyronn Lue at point, Tracy McGrady at shooting guard, Donnell Harvey at small forward, Juwan Howard at power foward and Steven Hunter (ugh) at center. This brings Gordan Giricek and Drew Gooden off of the bench for now. RotationJohnny Davis is doing a better job spreading minutes around. I thought Reece Gaines and Keith Bogans played fairly well this past game. Bogans has been pretty solid all year though and I really think he deserves 20+ minutes a game. He really needs to find his shot to secure his spot though. Big 'Z' is missing from the rotation. Pachulia is itching for some playing time. He has shown a lot...

Let's go Magic!

Everyone wants to jump on you when things are down. The media is looking for someone to blame for the Magic's poor record this year. Monday morning quarterbacks are looking for the one thing that is going to turn this franchise around. News flash, these problems have been around for years. Fortunately for us, we had two good things going for the team. Doc Rivers and Tracy McGrady. Doc is gone, and if we are not careful - McGrady will be too. Now, don't get me wrong - I am not making excuses for anyone. I think it is time for McGrady to stand up to the critics and show why he deserves to be the leader of this team or any other team. We forget this guy...

Quotes

“I thought we gave in a little bit tonight.'' - Johnny Davis Hell, I would hate to see a lot. "It's the last day of the trip, and everybody pretty much wants to go home and get the show over with.” - Tracy McGrady No shit, but that does not give you the right to not play basketball. And, yes it a show. A show that 17,317 paid to see you play in - not to mention the hundreds of thousands of others who pay for cable to see you play. The Orlando Magic is the ONLY reason that I have cable TV. Oh, and can we consider all of us who pay hundreds of dollars a year in merchandise to make your pockets fat. It is a show...

ESPN Article

A recent article on ESPN has John Weisbrod patting John Gabriel on the back for all the hard work he has put into this team. Basically, it sounds as if they blame Doc for everything and Gabriel is going to make it out of this without a scratch. I was going to comment that I wish they did this during the summer so that I would not have put forth the idea of buying season tickets. Then, I realized something. This was the plan all along. With already declining ticket sales, there is no way they could have fired Doc before the season started. So, another season will pass. A less than desirable starting lineup, non productful bench and another coach thrown into the mix to attempt a .500...

My crazy idea

--------

Storm is brewing

Orlando Sentinel is reporting a few comments being traded back and forth between Doc and management. Like I have said before, I think Doc is a good coach - just not the right coach for this team. I agree we need someone new to bring this team to life and make a few changes. However, nothing will change much unless the management is overhauled along with this change. We have been sitting idle for too long now watching a bunch of blundering idiots get rich off our hard earned money. Gabriel should be the first to go - if nothing more than to show that the blame is not entirely on Doc....

Updates

ESPN is reporting that sources close to the Magic may be considering Johnny Davis or Dave Wohl next in line to replace Doc. Woah, wait a minute - let's not overreact here. I agree that Doc's time is up - but to just handout positions to persons next in line is not the solution. Does anyone remember the Brian Hill fiasco? At the very least, postpone the firing and look at all options before jumping the gun. I think Doc is a better coach than either of those two. If were just going to go handing out positions, then I'm starting a petition for GM. Britton Johnsen was released from his contract and Derek Dial has been added to the roster. I sure hope this was not just...

Analysis

There is an article on ESPN providing an analysis on the Magic and the problems they are faced with. In the end, the opinions are similar to what I have posted over and over again. It all boils down to coaching and preparation for the games....

Funny Kobe photo

There is a great photo over on Scott's NBA Weblog. Personally, Kobe seems more likely to take it than give it - still, the photo is funny as hell....

Quotes from players

"This team plays too cool, we need to get some attack dog in us." - Steven Hunter Really? This has got to be the funniest thing I have ever heard. Since when did Hunter do anything to deserve media attention for commenting on how the team is performing. Buddy, when you pull down more than 5 rebounds in a game in under 20 minutes - then you can have your quotes. “There's no way this team should beat us" - Steven Hunter referring to the Chicago Bulls. Hey Steven - they beat the Lakers, twice I believe. "It can't get any worse, it really can't." - Tracy McGrady Wanna bet on that? If a trade or Doc's removal does not happen soon (or we sign Dennis Rodman) - this...

New links, observations

Blogging is becoming huge on the Net. Back in the day, it was cool to have tiling backgrounds and midi files all over your homepage. In fact, almost everyone I knew was trying to find a way to get a homepage. Ok, maybe it was not cool - but blogging is cool now, or at least it is cool right now. So, as I find yet another way to stay up past midnight, I travel the endless Blog Rolls and notice this site is linked to from all over the place. I am trying to add reciprocal links as I come across them - but if I miss one, please email me. Yeah, blogs are cool and everyone has one. I guess arguing with your buddies at work...

Hunter, next cut

Who do you think will be the next player cut? The general thought is Sasser will be the next player waived from the team but who will be the final cut before the season starts. My personal choice is for them to cut Steven Hunter. This guy has hardly produced any results in his 2 years. I have watched him dance around on the court too many times without pulling a rebound down to keep this guy on the team. If you want an example of effort, you watch for Britton Johnsen to make the team and bust his ass on every play....

Effort (notes from the New Orleans game)

Season tickets

Finally - our season ticket package showed up in the mail this week. Actually, we decided on a ten game package because it can get difficult to make some of the games. We figured this to be the best way to get the games we really wanted while providing flexibility to pick up a few extra games during the season. I have been watching the Magic ever since they started and have been attending games for the past 5 years. Every year I learn one new trick on where to sit, what games to go to and how much I really enjoy basketball. I am really looking forward to the upcoming year and I am pretty sure my dad is too. Of course, he will probably skip the Indiana...

For the past year we have heard nothing but how great this Lebron James is going to be. All the hype so far on Lebron is ridiculous.
