The Magic announced the assistant coaches for the upcoming season. Brendan Malone, Patrick Ewing, Steve Clifford and Bob Beyer were all named as assistant coaches.
Yesteday at 5pm, the Orlando Magic introduced Stan Van Gundy as their new head coach. The press conference was exactly as I said before, pretty low key with only the major news outlets showing up.

The Orlando Sentinel has posted a good piece on the Van Gundy hire and background story on how everything went down the last day or so.

After some late night rumors of Van Gundy spending the day in Sacramento and speculation that he might sign with the Kings, the news now is that Van Gundy will become the head coach of the Orlando Magic.
I'm truly worried what the knucklenuts in the blue room might end up with.
Well, almost. Reports circulating the net state the Magic have offered the head coaching position to Stan Van Gundy.
After a hectic morning, the news about the head coaching job has quieted considerably going into the afternoon. There were rumors, confirmations, more rumors and then just simple crazy talk most of the morning.
Anyhow, I was thinking the whole mess over and it hit me. The Magic will go for a dual head coaching position and hire both Van Gundy's.
Stan Van Gundy has always been in the Magic's head coaching plans. The Billy Donovan deal basically made him the #2 choice.
I don't know about you, but I'd hate to be that "next guy". You know the one. The guy who gets introduced as the next head coach of the Orlando Magic. There won't be statewide TV coverage of the press conference. There will be only 10 people at the press conference instead of 100.

According to several reports in the media, it appears as if Billy Donovan will be returing to the Gators after all. Reports state that Donovan has had a possible change of heart, was forced into the decision by the Magic.
If you were coach for the rest of the year, do you make any changes to the starting lineup? Winning like we have brings a lot of questions to the table about next year. Do we continue with the starting 5 we have now? Or do you make a change and try starting Darko Milicic? Where does Grant Hill fit into your plans for next year?

The Magic will not be retaining assistants Chris Jent, Paul Westhead and Clifford Ray for next season. While the first two will not be missed by most Magic fans, it comes as bit of a shock that Ray will not be with the Magic next year.

As the season winds down, we will undoubtedly hear the fair share of coaching rumors. To start things off, we have some lame local sports authorities throwing out all kinds of garbage.

The Orlando Magic have a new assistant coach, Paul Westhead. I know everyone is as excited as I am about this move. Wait, who the hell is this guy? Exactly. Another no name assistant to go along with a no name coach and a few no name players. By the end of the year, we should be back to our heart and hustle minus Doc. Though, who really thought Doc was going to be a good coach....
The reports are that Johnny Davis is not an interim coach, but has been signed to a two year deal. Where the hell are we going with this? So, Doc is gone. Davis is our coach for the next two years. Gabriel still has his job. I guess the management team can stand around in a circle now - pat each other on the ass and yell “Good Job.” Next thing you know, Derrick Dial will be in the game in a clutch situation and Keith Bogans will only play 12 minutes....
After numerous rumors, the Orlando Magic have decided to part ways with Doc Rivers. It was noted that John Gabriel was the one who informed Doc of the team's decision. Personally, I think Gabriel should have gone long before Doc. Dave Wohl was also released. Johnny Davis will be taking over as the interim coach. Paul Pressey should be taking over as his assistant. Personally, I think this is a bit of a knee jerk on the executive level. The execs felt that a change was necessary, I just think they looked to far down the chain. The middle management and the blundering decision making is where the Magic should really focus their attention. I have said in the past that we would need to part ways with Darrell...
Think about it - this is a perfect fit for the Magic. In my opinion, two of the major problems in Orlando are Doc Rivers and John Gabriel. Now, don't think I am saying either are not any good. They are both good in their position - but I do not believe they are on the same page nor do they agree on a daily basis. Doc is a great coach - I just don't think he is the right coach for Orlando. What does Orlando lack that Pat Riley can bring? Defense and focus. Pat Riley is the perfect fit as a coach and general manager. He is best known for his defensive minded teams and the mental toughness his teams have shown every year. To have...
