Opening night

It's October 31st, Halloween. Or to most Magic fans, it's the start of a brand new season. Thank god. Well, almost. The Orlando Magic and BrightHouse had to go and screw up 75% of Central Florida's coverage area. So, most of us fans won't even be able to see the game tonight. A lot of people are coming down hard on BrightHouse for this. Usually I won't waste a good opportunity to bash them, this one lies solely on management staff of the Orlando Magic. What bonehead makes a decision just before the start of the season to turnover broadcast rights to a cable TV station that has less than 25% market penetration in your core area? Idiots. Complete idiots. At worst, you phase in a plan to replace your production team over the course of the year. But hey, they got their new shiny arena deal. Hopefully, they still have some fans who will show up when (and if) the thing ever gets built.

While a lot of people want to point blame at BrightHouse, they are not the ones who triggered this whole mess to begin with. No, this one is solely a product of the poor decision making of the Orlando Magic executive team. Even with the new arena deal, the signing of Rashard Lewis and the continued improvement of Dwight Howard - there were still tickets available yesterday for opening night. Pathetic really. But, when you don't invest in your true fans and can't target your core market because of a stupid decision - well, what do you expect. Fans have a hard time getting excited over a team that can't seem to connect with fans. Well, at least we (we being those who actually go to the games this year) will get to see Quick Change and the BMX group 4 or 5 five times this year. I can hardly wait to be entertained by the same acts again. That really fires up a crowd during halftime.
