Next up, Stan Van Gundy?

I don't know about you, but I'd hate to be that "next guy". You know the one. The guy who gets introduced as the next head coach of the Orlando Magic. There won't be statewide TV coverage of the press conference. There will be only 10 people at the press conference instead of 100. And there won't be any assurances of an arena deal. There will be a new head coach announced and it probably won't even crack the front page of ESPN. That is unless, the news is very slow and they just want to poke fun. It's Orlando. Home of Disney. Everything is make believe here.

Here is what we do know. The list of coaching candidates is weaker than the upcoming free agency talent. Stan Van Gundy's name has been thrown around as the Magic's #2. While a decent candidate, he's not exactly going to get the same kind of reception Billy Donovan did. In fact, no one probably will. Rick Carlisle is my personal pick - but he is probably not even on the top ten list for the Magic and probalby most fans. Regardless of who the Magic end up hiring as coach, you can bet he will be overpaid. A good coach will want the same or more than what the Magic were offering Donovan and any bum off the street will at least want Brian Hill money.
