After a week of uncertaintity and second opinions, Grant Hill will undergo surgery for a sports hernia next week. The injury occurred last week in the first quarter of a preseason game against Maccabi. Hill is expected to be out 3 to 6 weeks while he recovers. The surgery is considered to be minor and we can expect Hill to miss the beginning of the NBA season and rejoin the Magic sometime around the first week of December.
While any inury to a starter is tough to work through, Hill's injury really prevents the Magic from getting off in the right direction at the start of the season. With Steve Francis still at the point guard position, we can expect to see Hill handle the ball considerably in coach Brian Hill's offense. With Hill out for the first few weeks of the season, the Magic will have to adjust with Hedo Turkoglu starting in that small forward spot. When Hill returns, the Magic will go through growing pains moving Hill back into the starting spot.
