I have to say that I am all too familiar with the decision John Wesibrod had to make. Weisbrod did all this work, dirty work at that, to get the team turned around and headed into the right direction. The team was behind the man 100% and the salary cap was not going to be a problem they said.
So, why did John Weisbrod quit? Plain and simple. The man worked his ass off making moves to better this team. When the tough came knocking, the pocket book closed up. Some of his decisions were popular, some were not. The team as a whole, and the Magic as a franchise, are better today than they were last summer. In all honesty, they are better now than they have been in 2-3 years. Weisbrod asked for the coach he thought could do the job and the Magic would not pay. Instead, they opted for the "popular" choice and brought back Brian Hill.
Weisbord, being the hard nosed executive he is, could not stand by and watch this happen to something he put his life and heart into. We didn't see Weisbrod turn tale and hide when lame fans threatened his life. No, he stood up and made the team even better. He set an example of what the Magic organization has been lacking for years. Backbone. Stand up for what you believe is right, and don't let anyone tell you differently.
I'm sorry. But the Magic aren't selling me on Brian Hill. And they sure as hell aren't selling me the story of John Weisbrod leaving for greener pastures. I won't say I agree with every decision Weisbrod made in his time here, but I will agree with this one. The Magic put this town and team on his shoulders, but in the end, wouldn't let him carry the weight.
