So, armchair GM - do you make a trade before the deadline? Personally, I leave the team as-is. The only way I would make a trade is if I was getting a defensive minded forward with good rebounding skills in exchange for Pat Garrity.
Even then, it would be hard for me to give up Garrity before the deadline. Garrity has a knack for hitting big shots and getting hot in big games. I like to have this guy on the bench come playoff time. However, summer time rolls around - and I'm entertaining legitimate offers.
What I would do is move Brandon Hunter to the injured list and bring Mario Kasun back to the bench. I though Kasun was providing some decent minutes out there on the floor. All the kid needs is a little more floor time.
That brings me to DeShawn Stevenson. Unless some one-sided trade is out there on the horizon - this guy needs more playing time. Come playoff time, Stevenson could cause some fits for some of the faster guards we might have to face in the playoffs. By no means is Stevenson a lock down defender, but he holds his own. He is quick and requires a lot of attention on the offensive side of the floor. He makes quick cuts and can get easy baskets. Over the course of a 7 game series, we could use the energy.
Do we make a trade to make this team better? I don't think there is anything out there right now to help this team. I think we need more consistent defensive intensity from the team and player rotations from coach.
As far as I am concerned, I leave the team as-is and start preaching defense to make a run to the playoffs. This summer, I make the 2-3 small changes to make this team a title contender next year.
