Magic keep winning

The Magic won their seventh game on the road this season by beating the New Orleans Hornets last night. The Magic now stand at 10-2, the first team in the NBA to reach 10 victories this season. Dwight Howard was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week while averaging 23 points and 13 rebounds. Hedo Turkoglu is playing the way he is capable of playing and I think this makes a big difference in the team. Hedo is a versatile player who can open the floor for other players. And Rashard Lewis, well, his fourth quarter threes are just plain Rasharded.

It also helps that Jameer Nelson has bought into the point guard position and has really led this team well on the floor. We're also seeing Howard direct teammates on the floor and get points he normally wouldn't make. Earlier in the week, he sealed a victory against Cleveland. Magic fans, it's still very early in the NBA season - so let's not get too excited. But this Magic team is winning games with a confidence that has been missing for many years. Most of the road wins were against sub .500 teams. Our two losses are against Phoenix and Detroit - two teams that we'll need to beat to be seriously considered as contenders.

Let's hope the team can keep the winning going. Stan Van Gundy has done a great job keeping the team focused and motivated. You can tell when they come out of a timeout - they don't look so puzzled or worried as they did last year. While the players are certainly playing like a team and additions of Rashard Lewis and Adonal Foyle make this team better - I think it's Van Gundy that's due a lot of credit for these close victories. The Magic believe in Van Gundy. We believe in Magic.
