Magic vs Toronto

More of the same as the Magic lose to the Toronto Raptors without Chris Bosh, 91-84. Dwight Howard finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Carlos Arroyo scored 22 points on a decent game filling in for the injured Jameer Nelson. Ten assists, fifteen turnovers and just under 38% shooting won't win you many games. It doesn't help matters to be missing Hedo Turkoglu, Keith Bogans and Jameer Nelson. Grant Hill wasn't looking too good either - might be a problem with his knee. Hill we be out tomorrow so we might see more of J.J. Redick. Redick managed to get a few minutes in tonight, but he clearly has timing issues and possibly the jitters a little. The Magic just need to get him 5-10 minutes a game and see where he's at in 3-4 weeks. Suprisingly, we saw no Bo Outlaw or Pat Garrity tonight. With the team playing flat, Outlaw could have provided a little energy. And Garrity started at small forward for us in the past, with his shooting I would have though we'd see more of him. Personally, I think we need to see more of the bench in games. Some players are getting 20-30 minutes a game and playing long stretches in place of starters. I think we could go a little deeper on the bench and get a couple guys in for a few minutes at a time to keep the legs fresh.

OK. So injuries are always a hit to a team. Especially one like ours, where we have a lot of role players but not many people who can step up game after game after game.

But, and here's the killer, the reason we have been playing so badly is because of poor team rotations early in the season.

The players further down the roster, Reddick, Diener, etc. were very nervous on the court when they were asked to step up. Only now that they have a few games behind them are they starting to come out and play.

I would've preferred to see these "warm-up" minutes come during games we were comfortably winning earlier in the season, when we still had a full complement of starters.

The injuries and the pressure on the kids both contributed to our recent drop in form.

Let's hope this isn't the start of a fall from grace.

With all these injuries and key players missing games I have a interesting suggestion. I was listning to 740AM the teams sports radio and they were interviewing the ABA Orlando Aces and this young player by the name of Alex Hill was being interviewed. Something about the way he spoke reminded me of a young hungry jordan. So I went to Orlandoaces.com and looked up his stats. He averages 21.3 points a game and his last game scored 33 points aginst one of the ABA top teams. They play right next to the TD Waterhouse center. I know in Jan they start the 10 contract....it is a necessity that we get him before somone else does since he is right in our back yard....dont u think???

I agree with you Andi - if we're not going to see Bo Outlaw and Pat Garrity on the floor contributing, then we need to get Diener and Redick on the floor for a few minutes each game if for no other reason than to them prepared later on. I don't see Garrity or Outlaw being a part of this team in the near future, but Redick and Diener will be. The team should focus on investing playing time with the younger players.

Regarding Alex Hill - I'm certain the Magic have a list of potential players they might be interested in. However, the team roster stands at 15 players and unless a trade changes that number or they release someone, the chance the team signs a player to a 10 day contract is nil. Aside from a couple changes in our bench rotation, I'd be hesitant to make any changes or bring in any players until the summer. I think the team has the pieces it needs to get through a solid year. In the summer, we can explore veteran free agents (With Grant's salary coming off the books) that help out in the scoring department and help take this team to the next level.

Seems like we agree on a lot of stuff!

I moved to NY a few months ago from the UK and I can't wait for the magic to come up and play NYK and NJN! Will be my first ever magic games!
