Tonight, at 7:00pm on ESPN, the 2005 NBA Draft will take place. The Magic have the 11th overall pick and the 38th and 44th picks in the second round. Magic fans will have a long night ahead to see who the team ends up with.
With the 11th pick and two second round picks, it is not out of the realm of possibility that a trade come into play. I personally see the Magic trading the 11th pick for a veteran player, probably a point guard or shooting guard.
However, it is possible they trade up and try to secure a higher draft position to draft one the top three point guards in this draft. The Magic are rumored to be pretty high on Deron Williams, who at 6'3", would be the tall point guard we have looked for in the past.
If the Magic ended up selecting at the 11th spot, we can reasonably expect the following players to be available Martell Webster, Sean May, Rashad McCants and Antoine Wright, although their stock is rising. I could see the Magic taking a gamble on Martell Webster if no viable trade offers show up on the radar.
One thing is for sure, nothing is set in stone. The first two picks are a lock - but the third pick by Portland will dictate the reset of the draft.
I personally think we only need a few tweaks here and there with our team, mostly needing a starting center. Whether or not that becomes Dwight Howard remains to be seen. I look to trade this pick, up or down, for the best available position we can fill and then solidify the point guard or center position in free agency.
Remember, we had a lot of injuries late last year that really kept this team from making a push. We also have a couple players that may be attractive to other teams wanting to cut salaries (Doug Christie) or needing a solid bench player to make a playoff push (Pat Garrity).
Either way the draft goes, check back later tonight for what we think about it.
Hi, Orlando!
Fran Vazquez is a greet player and he´ll improve... he´s magic for the Magic! Congratulations for the choice: Fran is the pick of the crop ;-)
Saludos, David
I sure hope so. I don't feel very good about this pick, personally. I mean, if they are so high on this guy - we should have kept Zaza. I think we're looking pretty silly right now.
