Power Struggle

Last week I wrote about the power struggle the Magic went through. It's hard to imagine John Weisbrod would just quit on this team out of the blue. Now, the NY Daily News is reporting that Flip Saunders was locked up as the head coach until Rich DeVos decided he knew what was best for the team.

Flip Saunders thought he had the Orlando coaching job locked up but then GM John Weisbrod lost a power struggle. In addition to coaching, Saunders would have been No. 2 to Weisbrod in terms of personnel decisions. But then Magic owner Rich DeVos vetoed the move, opting to give personnel director Dave Twardzik more power and bring back Brian Hill as coach. - NY Daily News

So, after all the hard work that Weisbrod put into this team for the last year - the boss man comes through and begins to doubt his actions. In the end, the micro-managing DeVos gets his hands a little dirty and mucks up the whole deal.

Thanks alot. Weisbrod, thank you for your dedication. Not only to the team, but to integrity. You did the right thing by leaving this team, I think a few more of us may follow in your footsteps.

tj Good job with that last post. I did not buy what was being reported either. This makes a lot of sence. Like many magic season tkt. holders I very much liked some of johns moves like the three rockets for t-mac and grabbing hedo and jameer but hated the cutino/christie debacle. In any case, john showed much integrity thruout this season. Please do not let this saunders revelation get to you. I think Brian is as good a choice as flip would have been. I like your website and hope you do not dessert the team. Keep the faith, try to post more often if you can.

Now once a magic fan always a magic fan.....
Don't give up w/ b-hill back in o-town we will
at least go to the 2nd rd next season. Start printing those 2nd rd t-shirts now ..just as the wizards did this year. 2007-08 season looks real
good from here once we create salary cap space for either Carmelo/Wade/Lebron they will all be free agents.... We get rid of Grant's Huge contract that year hopefully some Magic will happen again...Like the late great Jimmy V said
Don't ever give up!!!!!!

Oh, I may complain off and on - but I doubt I will ever stop supporting the Magic. Who knows, maybe things will go back to where they were. But then again, that's what I have been complaining about for the last 3 years. We have a mediocre team. A Flip Saunders, regardless of coaching ability, is a big name coach that could attract free agents. I thought this team was making a push to become more than a .500 team - but I think they have taken a step back.

Hey. I like the blog. I check it out everyday for updates. I started one of my own up and I'm looking for some viewers. Check out http://nbamessiah.blogspot.com/

It focuses on the whole league

Thanks Doug

I will always be a magic fan but I am tired of these awful front office decisions.

can anyone 100% confirm flip was offered a job? I mean quotes or sources within the magic?
